Overly-sappy greeting cards and endless boxes of candy being sat out on a shelf… yep – it is that time of year again. The time when we stop to celebrate a holiday that even the most unromantic marketers can get on board with. After all, the holiday itself was created by marketers for business! Social media and Valentines Day are the perfect duo for any marketers looking to sweeten up their brand image.
Before we take all the magic out of your upcoming Valentines Day, (just two weeks away, by the way – get cracking), we thought this would be the perfect time to talk about another relationship in your life. Your relationship with your audience. If you aren’t feeling the spark, here are 3 easy ways to make your audience fall in love.
It’s time for a makeover.
Pretty posts are majorly trending for 2017. Artistic, inspirational posts that look pretty on a page will get shared. Think floral, indie images, geometric designs and whimsical brand-appropriate posts that an audience would want to pin or retweet. The timelier the better.
Don’t be annoying.
How many times have you followed a brand only to find that you needed a 16-coffee minimum to make it through their feed? You quickly unfollowed, even if you were promised an occasional coupon because it was just too much to suffer through. That same brand is still promising that this is the last time they will ever offer the same offer they have offered every day since they started offering to offer you stuff. Now, try to say that three times fast.
Be relevant. Be necessary. Be useful. Make your audience fall in love with your authenticity. Share what enriches the life of your audience and sprinkle your sales jargon out lightly. Don’t be that guy. Nobody likes that guy.
See other platforms.
Committed relationships are great between two people. Committed relationships in business with a tiny handful of social platforms, on the other hand, may be hurting your chances of connecting with your audience. You should be consistently on the cusp of what’s happening out there. New platforms are born weekly. While you cannot do it all, per say, chances are that you can at least cover more bases than you currently are.
When you do take on more platforms, keep your followers across the board by posting different content to all medias with the occasional link back to your other platforms. Ain’t nobody got time for checking all your feeds for the same information. That high-key irks people and is a quick way to get unfollowed.
It is funny how much Valentine’s Day can sum up social media marketing in a nutshell. Your goal is to make your audience fall in love, and it’ll take a bit of work to integrate social media and Valentines Day. Once you build trust with your brand, the “likes” will just flock to you.
